| Squid | Well I bought a Teknic Chicane 1 piece race suit last night and took it for a test drive today. When I am on the balls of my feet it creates a LOT of pressure on my knees. Is this normal? It seems like when I lift my feet up after a red light that there isn't enough fabric in the back and yanks down. Some pressure on shoulders I am BRAND NEW to race suits so I don't know if this is normal and will just "stretch" out to fit my frame or not. The girl at the store said that it was like a perfect fit. It just seems like you need to work a little harder to get into riding position from stop...is this natural? Please help me out.

iTrader: (0) Rep Power: 6 (56) | Well, I sure as heck am not a pro on this one, but when I got my first set of leathers I found them very difficult to move in and almost dropped my bike at the first stop because I couldn't get my foot down fast enough. They definitely take some getting used to and breaking in. Mine are finally starting to be more supple and less restrictive. The extra weight is a little tough and does make my shoulders sore after a long ride. To break them in I'd wear them around the house and on my short trips to work starting out. Perhaps others on this board can give tips on how to break your leathers in faster and painlessly. |

| Newbie | When I break in a new set I wear em around the house for a couple of days. They usually feel stiff until they are broken in slightly. They should be slightly dificult to get into as well.. thus resulting in the 'leather dance' |

iTrader: (0) Rep Power: 7 (22) | The first two suits I bought were both Frank Thomas - I had a really hard time with the knees, to the point that when I was on the balls of my feet it hurt so much that by the end of the day my knees were black and blue and I had a heck of a time putting my feet on the ground as it hurt like hell to straighten out my legs.. I gave both these suits about a month of riding to no avail. I ended up getting custom leathers from Z Leathers: Z Custom Leathers - The absolute best custom leather apparel money can buy. I have had two suits from them, and both times the suits were a bit stiff for the first ride or two, but then they became like a second skin. The key I found to breaking them in was to go out on the hottest day possible and ride & sweat like crazy for a few hours - That broke them in almost immediately. What I am trying to say is if you are in a decent amount of pain or uncomfortable-ness, you may need to try another brand or simply go custom. Z Leathers has very reasonable prices and they are amazing all around.

iTrader: (0) Rep Power: 7 (22) | Are you wearing under armour? If not, pick some up and ride with that under your leathers - it'll make a WORLD of difference. I believe you can get the "generic" UA at Walmart or pretty much any sports store if you want to save a few dollars.

iTrader: (0) Rep Power: 2 (28) | REI has generics too. Besides Z Leathers there's a closer place for custom leathers in San Clemente. NJK Leathers. I was advised besides sweating in them while new (to help break in) keep them on for about 1/2 hour after the ride. Hope this helps.
