Default Goodridge Brake Line Q&A

Hey everyone.

IF you guys have any technical questions on brakes lines, feel free to post a question here.

I thought I would start with a couple:

Q:Why should I buy Goodridge steel braided brake lines?
A: The main reason and what most will recognize right away is a more effcient and sensitive feel to braking. Over time and with heat, the rubber lines begin to expand under pressure, therefore some of the pressure that is meant to go to the brake caliper is lost in the flex/expansion of the rubber hose. Goodridge Brake lines have a PTFE (think Teflon) inner tubing which the fluid runs through, then is surrounded by a woven steel braid, hence the term "Steel Braided Lines". The steel braided line is what keeps the expansion from happening, in turn sending your brake lever input directly to the caliper.

Q: Can I get them in different colors to match my bike?
A. Yup! Ace has Electric Blue Goodridge lines to match her CBR600. Also available are Carbon Look lines, Red, Green, Yellow, Orange.

Q:Where can I get Goodridge Brake Lines:
A: Call Lockhart Phillps 1-800-221-7291 or Parts Unlimited 608-758-1111 or visit their websites

http://lockhartphillipsusa.com/
http://www.parts-unlimited.com/

They can find you the motorcylce dealer or shop nearest you that can get you a set.

Q: Who uses Goodridge Brake Lines?
A:Team Kawasaki- Tommy Hayden, Roger Lee Hayden
Team Honda - Miguel Duhamel, Jake Zemke
Erion Racing - Kurtis Roberts
Attack Performance - Josh Hayes, Ben Attard
Another Famous Team I cant disclose, but YOU know whoe they are.

In a nutshell.......The Pros trust Goodridge.

Just warming up..........Soon I'll post up on "-2" and "-3" what it means to you.

Feel free to ask questions relating to brake lines and I'll do my best to answer them.

Freaky bud, thanks for that question and giving me the chance to speak to our brand and why we are the best choice for your brake lines.

Why your best choice is Goodridge:

1. ALL factory race team Crew Chiefs choose Goodridge products. They didn?t just flip a coin to make that decision. They chose our product because we are the BEST. Also notable is they BUY our product because they want to use it, we don?t have to give it away so they use them.

2. Miguel, Jake, Tommy, Roger, Josh, Kurtis, and other top riders trust our product on their bikes at close to 200mph on the banks of Daytona and coming into the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca! That says a lot about the quality of our product. Take a moment to digest this point; it does have a lot of weight.

3. Because we already have the top teams using our brake lines, we also want satellite teams and privateers to use our product. In association with Lockhart Phillips those privateers have special pricing as part of an effort to assist them to go racing. For more info go to Lockhart?s website.

4. For ?05 you will see a larger presence of Goodridge at the track. We are a proud sponsor of SportbikesWest and are working with Mike Cain to build an ongoing and strong working relationship.

5. 100% of Formula One Teams use our product, 90% of NASCAR uses our product, and 70% of CART-IRL uses our product as well as Rally Car and even Mountain Bike race teams. Again, they BUY our product to use it.

6. You can gather great knowledge from multipurpose application outside of just motorcycles. We take our braking experiences, education and feedback from motorcycle, automotive, industrial and use it to make our product the best and better all the time.

7. Our brake lines come with a LIFETIME WARRANTY. No silly cards to fill out or register, just send us the lines and our Quality Control will review it. If it?s faulty, we?ll send you out new lines, simple as that.

8. We have over 35 years of experience in making brake lines and that has allowed us to build OEM lines for companies such as Polaris, Artic Cat, Bombardier, John Deere and others. You can imagine what the quality standards are for OEM, and Goodridge meets those.

9. You can be expecting NEW product and application from us real soon. It?s going to be exciting.

Hope this information helps you make a decision.

Ok, here's one for you Ado. Doesn't really have to do with a particular brand at all, but...

What's the proper way to bleed brakes? That's the one thing i dread when i do a brake job.

Sorry I cant go into too much detail here.....But when you get your next set of lines, preferably ours..lol....I'll be happy to help you.

Default -2 brake lines and -3 brake lines

Information on -2 brake lines and -3 brake lines

You will here the term -3 (dash three) often in brake line discussions with automotive or motorcycle applications. It is the most commonly used hose by Goodridge for applications on automobiles, ATV's and motorcycles. Our -3 Hose we use is a 600 series hose. It is described as hose that is compatible with all brake and clutch fluids.

-2 hose (dash two) is not as widely used but is still prevelant in motorcyling. One of the AMA race teams I work with uses -2 on the front and -3 on the rear. Why? What the difference?

The difference between -2 and -3 is the diameter of the hose. Where the -3 hose has an outer diameter of 6.45 mm, the -2 hose has an outer diameter of 5.0 mm. What does that mean to us in practical terms?
It means it has a smaller diameter hose to which to flow fluid through. As a result of that smaller diameter, it is more sensitive to brake lever inputs as well as having a higher threshold to pressure (19,800 psi burst pressure as opposed to 12.750 on -3).

Who would use this? Well most people in motorcycling think that the Race teams would........wrong. Like I mentioned above, only one of the AMA teams I work with use -2 hose and the rest use -3 hose.

Why wouldnt they use the -2 instead? I posed that question to Joey Lombardo, Crew Chief for Tommy Hayden (2004 AMA Supersport Champion) and his reply was that the "intial bite" of the -2 did not make Tommy comfortable and that his job (Joey's) was to make Tommy as comfortable on the bike as possible. IT comes down to rider preference, simple as that.

So there you have a little education on two main hose types. Hope you enjoyed the reading.

I'm going to be writing a section for our website that will explain bleeding brakes and replacing the line. Keep an eye on the Tech section
