| Spammer | Now I usually don't fight tickets that I believe were deserved (all of them until now) and I've gotten off when I should've been ticketed thanks to nice officers of the law. This time, I don't believe I was in the wrong and here goes the story: I was coming from Beverly Hills going through Coldwater Canyon towards the Valley and somewhere between entering the valley and Vanowen, I got ticketed. People familiar with the area know that it's a 35mph zone where most people go 45-55. Anyhow, I was going down the street behind two cars (they were side by side) and I was following the one on the right, getting ready to pass. Then I saw the sirens come from the police car which was on the opposite side of the road, I didn't think anything of it as I pulled to the side of the road. The officer did a U-turn after passing me and pulled up right behind me. The proceedings were normal - he wasn't an ******* to me. In fact he was pretty courteous. I didn't have my license on me (wallet rather - oops), so he let me give him my #. He ticketed me for a 55 in a 35 and not having proof of insurance on me. I know I should just keep all that **** in my bike, but there's literally no room. Eh. Anyhow, I don't know if I deserved the speeding ticket since there were two cars in front of me blocking line of sight. I only pulled over because that's what you do when sirens go off, but the other two cars didn't. Any ideas / suggestions, or should I just pay the fine? |

| Know It All | You have nothing to lose by showing up for your ticket. ALWAYS keep your license in your wallet. Always keep your registration & insurance papers in the lining of your helmet. You always wear your helmet-right? This way you don't have to "remember" it. :happyb

| Spammer | I got a ticket once for not having proof on insurance. The ticket confirmation in the mail sent to me scared the **** out of me since it said I owed something close to 1500 bucks for the ticket. Glad I found out it was way less as long I can prove I had insurance at the time of the ticket. |

| Know It All | Go to this website: http://www.ticketassassin.com/ I'm in the process of fighting a ticket I got in my Vette. You're better off doing this cause you have a better chance of getting off, and at worst, you still pay your ticket fine. You want to do the Trial by Written Declaration. This allows you to fight your ticket without ever having to step foot in a courtroom and all by mail.

| Squid | I did the Trial by Declaration (with help from tickassassin) and was still found guilty. I requested a new trial (Trial De Novo) and sent the documents by certified mail, the court lost my TR220 request on purpose then told me that the due date had passed and the case was closed. This whole traffic system is a joke, a massive fraud :thumbdown TBD doesn't always work so well, I've heard these days the Judges just mark guilty without even reading the case and hope you don't file for a new trial.

| Newbie | Is the ticket marked that he used radar? There is usualy a check box near the speed. If so, you can probaly fight it if there were cars in front of you. If the officer just estimated your speed, which he legaly can do, your probaly hosed. |

| Club Racer | I would fight it! The only speed limit California has is the 65 mph limit. Nothing else matters so if you can prove it was safe for the conditions (prima facie law) then the ticket should be dismissed. |
