So it may get thrown out in court if you don't wear a helmet. Question is........... why wouldn't you?

You don't have one on, and you crash. Sorry to say but it sucks to be you.

Weird, you'd think all the CHP would have to say is if it's not SNELL or DOT approved you'll get a ticket.

Quigley for President!!!!! Finally some common sense in our legal system.

Alright, before any of you start hemorrhaging from your ears and your wife simultaneously goes into a self induced hysterectomy, what I'm saying is; it SHOULD NOT be up to the government to dictate to me what "they" feel is safe or not.

Personally, I think that if you don't wear a helmet while riding you need your head examined. Everyone with an I.Q. over 4 knows that helmets protect and save lives. However, that decision to, or not to wear a helmet should be up to the individual and not a Federal or State agency telling me so. This is the Land of the Free, remember.

And please, please, please no one start up the argument about non-helmet related crashes, the uninsured and their subsequent bills left to the taxpayer. I will gladly have my taxes go to paying such debts in order to maintain my freedom of choice.

How about the brand new 18 y/o squid that doesn't realize that he even needs gear? How many guys do you see riding out there in shorts and t-shirts and helmets only because it's the law? I think the helmet law is a good thing not to take away anyone's freedom, but to instill good habits in new riders.

I'm all for a person's freedom of choice but I do agree that there should be one set rule to determine what is a helmet. Personaly I think that if you want to not were one fine by me.

But that comes with good advice hell some people don't know it's a good idea to wear a condom it's all in the information that gets put out to let them know that you can save yourself from some pain and time it the hospital with good gear. Some lessions juat get learned the hard way. If you don't wear a helmet you could die but if do you could live, choice it's what makes one man different from the next.

I agree, but still, if you force a new rider to wear a helmet, or any gear at all, at least for some amount of time, it could have a lasting effect. It's kind of like house breaking a puppy....or something like that :laughing

But that is part of the concern. If motorcycle insurance goes up so much that you/I can't afford to ride anymore because of idiots crackin thier noggin on the street, I think that is a great argument for manditory helmet laws.

And please, please, please don't start up the "Land of the Free" argument, 'cause we all know that is not the case. :biglaugh

land of the free argument? why have any laws at all? part of the governments responsability is to protect us, sometimes from ourselves. if we get rid of the helmet law, why not legalize heroine too? then again, should we really try to hinder natural selection from taking place?
