Is this the bike of the future? A new breed of machines for us to tame. I gotta have one!!!

Yes it would be a sweet class.. i think you may be able to even handle this size bike Gabe.

In the same magazine Randy Mamola writes about the future of the 125 & 250 GP classes regarding the current two-strokes and them being replaced by _something_ other than the dying/dead two stroke [in GP racing]. He brings up several fundamental questions about the entry level GP series and it's future version of racing motorcycle....

He also offers several solutions, and only one that's even palatable in my eyes - this is GP (pinnacle; non-production) racing we're talking about after all...

One of the solutions was to run 600cc production based engines in 'fab`d chassis', maybe even chassis' supplied by the (?) great Kenny Roberts...
  • I don't quite care for this idea myself, Kenny's chassis' aren't going to be cheap enough for the lowend GP teams, and the high-end ones don't want to be restricted to one chassis and a 'source' of production engines. That kinda sucks on both ends, you pay a buttload for a chassis, then source a production 600 for the powerplant.
  • Also, if you 'productionalize' the chassis, you've just taken the unobtainium out of the series. Sure, it's not available to you and I, but it's the 'standard' for all of the series. Do you want a 'spec' chassis in addition to a tire?
The second option he presented was the 250/450 singles & run what you brung.
  • This, to me is a solution. It keeps production anything out of GP racing. Almost all the current 125/250 GP participants make a 250 & 450 single and some factories that don't run in these series, have singles, that they just might use as a basis to get into it.
It's a tough call, what to do with a race series that the motorcycles used to compete with, are not the machines that they will move on to in MotoGP. Add to that that the two-stroke is dying in competitive racing, the four stroke is on the rise and if we want to keep MotoGP filled with a decent talent pool, something has to happen for the entry level series.
