Post And They Say Sportbikes are Dangerous...

Motorcyclist sentenced to 8 months for loosing control of bike, driving into parade crowd
ASSOCIATED PRESS

5:04 a.m. September 6, 2007

EASTPOINTE, Mich. – A man accused of driving his motorcycle into a crowd at a Veterans Day parade and injuring several children was sentenced to eight months in jail.
Richard Banker of Clinton Township pleaded no contest Wednesday to drunken driving causing an accident and failing to stop.

A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing purposes. In addition to the jail time, Banker was ordered to serve three years of probation. Six adults and five children, ages 10 to 17, were treated for injuries ranging from cuts and bruises to a broken leg after the crash last November in the Detroit-area community of Eastpointe. Witnesses said Banker was part of a unit of motorcyclists nearing the end of the parade route when he lost control of his Harley-Davidson, which jumped a curb and plowed into a group of at least 50 people.

It's not the type of bike (or weapon) that's dangerous - it's the idiot "in control" of it!

Cut them some slack. It's all what they do with their motorcycles: participate in "parades" wearing "colors". If they didn't drink, they'd be bored to death.

Interesting a motorcycle rider does this and gets time. Whatever happened to that dude that crashed the open market or the woman who lost control and hit all those kids on the playgrounds last yr?

Don't get me wrong, he should be held accountable but so should others.

It's very simple: they did it "unintentionally" and I'm pretty sure they showed enough remorse in court to make the jurors cry. Vs. the biker drinking "intentionally". Some would say alcoholism is a decease though... Another clear intention of his (or ours) is intentionally choosing to drive a dangerous and uncontrollable (in the eyes of cager jurors) machine, whether we could drive a safe SUV instead.

Considering how strong the church is in this country, American jurors (and judges) go by its guidelines: judging intentions/remorse, not consequences.
