iTrader: (0) Rep Power: 3 (28) | from the Union-Tribune: 7:05 a.m. February 21, 2008 CHULA VISTA: A motorcyclist who died after a crash last weekend was identified by the Navy yesterday as Petty Officer 3rd Class Christopher Michael Lapinig. ![]() Lapinig, 25, died at a hospital Tuesday night. He was riding a Honda motorcycle north on Interstate 805 at Olympic Parkway in Chula Vista on Sunday when he did a wheelie and crashed into the back of a Chrysler van, said the California Highway Patrol. Lapinig, from Union Beach, N.J., was stationed as an electrician's mate aboard the San Diego-based Narwhal, a torpedo weapons retriever boat. I'm sorry he died, but sheesh!

iTrader: (0) Rep Power: 2 (10) | I don't know what to say. I'm in the Navy and it is always very sad for me to see a brother-in-arms die. It was his fault no doubt but still my heart and prayers will go out to his family.

| Canyon Carver | Yes it is sad when a service member loses their life. Sad that he was not in his usuage with this machine. The armed forces go out of their way to ensure their people are trained in motorcycle safety.

| Spammer | Yes, its sad that this man died, sad that the news got the story wrong though. Yes, he was on a wheelie on the freeway. The messed up part was that he did not died from that. This crazy guy was cutting lanes and got clipped by another car. Got ejected from the and landed on his head. Then got ran over by another car. Yeah its messed up how he died. Most messed up is that now I will miss my dear friend. His name was Mikey. RIP |

iTrader: (0) Rep Power: 2 (10) | I didn't know about the other cars. Man that sucks really bad. My rider coach had told me that it's not the crash off the bike, it is all those monkeys in their cages. It just goes to prove for millionth time we are not seen unless we are on TV.

iTrader: (0) Rep Power: 4 (16) | RIP, but death doesn't automatically shift responsibility to someone else. Yes, people here are extremely unfit drivers, but I'd like to see any of you try to avoid a lowsided biker right in front of you at 80mph (freeway speed). Let alone soccer moms/dads with reaction time of 10 seconds. |

iTrader: (0) Rep Power: 4 (16) | I don't believe it was the case. If you crash on the freeway in front of some cagers (and we all know our freeways are never empty) you're dead, as simple as that. In any case we don't know what happened and what could have happened differently. But one thing is for sure: defensive driving. Would you blame a tree for crashing into it? Cagers are obstacles and should be treated as such. They don't have any intelligence, just like trees and other vegetation. It's your responsibility to avoid cagers, trees, guardrails and other THINGS. |
