Default Go with the Duc....

I'm kind of impartial. I've got a 748 and now an 848. I could of bought a jap bike that makes lots of more HP, but the 848 has plenty of power for me. It handles like a dream (almost as good as my rs250). On the street its much more tame than the 748 as far as riding position and comfort but if ya want to rip the twisites its great.

If you want to go really fast down any straight then go with the Honda. But if you want a bike thats going to really handle well, go with the 848.

Just my .02

Wait...this is Mike we're talking about.

Mike, buy a Ducati this month, being true to your nature you'll sell it in about 6 months. Then get Honda....that'll last another 6 months...then branch out, maybe Triumph? Suzuki? Kawi? another Duc?

Whatever you get, make it something someone else on here has there eye on so it'll be an easy sale.

Hey Speed, remember when Vince paid for regular maintenance on his 996? Ask him how much that cost him. Now he went and got the monster.

Mike, I would have to definitley have to go with the Ducati. I love the Honda.... but man, that 848 is a really nice bike. I understand the cost savings. If saving money on your bike = more trackdays... well, then get the Honda.LoL. I hear it handles better then the 600rr. Have a friend that rode a 1000rr and walked our buddies 2006 gixxer1000 with full system pc3.. blah blah.. on the freeway and pretty much any other time they twisted the throttle. The new 1000rr is supposed to be unreal. No point in having the 600rr AND the 1000rr... since like i stated 1000rr handles better and is smoother from what i hear. The bike is pretty much amazing and flawless, and has more power then you could imagine. (from what i have heard of the 7 ppl that have RIDDEN them... =)

That Ducati 848 is mighty nice. I would get it if cost was not the option...

on the cost is not an option..how about... sell the 600 and get both? lol... j/k don't do that... then we would never have a SBW trackday. lol

Default Honda or Duc

A friend of mine is racing the 848 (has 2) and BOTH motors blew at Daytona. He is trying to win the #1 Expert plate this year for southeast CCS. He was going to race in the Daytona 200 (Formula Extreme), but both his motors blew up. Apparently there is a problem with crank sensors. He hopes to get Ducati to replace the motors and there's a good chance they will since he's raced them for three years. The real question is whether you will ride them as hard as he does. Obviously, he is very fast if he could qualify for FX. The good news is that he bought both of them in white and was able to sell the bodywork to 1098 guys for $3,500! That paid for all the stuff he needed to race them without doing major engine work. He also gets to race them in supersport, so it is very competitive if you are going to race it. The price is decent on the 848 and I rode with a new one on the street last weekend, but they cut some corners, like the brakes aren't great and don't even have braided brake lines. I vote for neither because I like the GSX-R 750. I'm seriously thinking about one and like it having a little more power than the 600, but great handling and the slipper clutch. The only thing other thing I'd like to see on a bike is traction control. The only one I know of that has it, is the BMW GS. Too bad no one else makes 750's anymore.
