Default What's Insurance Costing You?

Whatchu guys & gals paying for comprehensive insurance these days. I've just converted my '05 Gixxer 1K racer into a streeter and I'm pricing insurance. The thing's never been registered, insured, etc.

I did the online quote thang with Progressive and Geico. Progressive quoted me $2,157 annually, Geico $997. That's quite a spread considering the coverage and terms are basically identical.

I believe my '07 Honda CBR600RR was costing me about $400 or less per year with AAA.

Peace of mind (thin air IMO) can be expensive. How would you price (and justify) their services anyway? One brand of "blinker fluid" vs. another. Why you need full coverage on a paid off bike? Get minimum liability for under $100 a year.

Good point... and one I've considered. All of my street bikes in the past have been liability-only once they're paid off.

In this case, I have a feeling this one's gonna be stolen - looks showroom new (at least the original plastics do), lots of aftermarket performance parts, where I'll be parking it at work, etc.

I know the drill with insurance and aftermarket parts. My real concern was with the value of the bike.

But your point is well-taken. In the end, I prolly will just stick with the liability-only option.

Depending where your work is, how secure that parking (traffic flow so questionable people can spot it, gated or not, nearest security booth, etc.), and how you park the bike this risk is manageable. I mean there would always be some risk, but you need to evaluate it for your specific situations and then take steps to lower it. And then think whether you can live with that or need additional peace of mind in the form of insurance.

I'd approach it from another angle: how much the peace of mind is worth to you. Let's say, $500 a year. So set you cap at this number.

That's the problem. My office is located on the corner of what is considered the most congested / travelled in all of the SFV.

The parking lot is outside with clear visability from the street from two sides.

It would be all too easy for someone to pull up in a van, throw the bike in, and be on the freeway in a matter of seconds.

Then again, I may not use it as a commuter and just use it for the occasional canyon blast / joy ride - for which I would certainly only need liability.

I'm gonna keep shopping around and see if I can get a more reasonable quote to cover theft.

Otherwise, screw it. It's only a bike.

I'm going with wawanesa. located in san diego. I will see what pricing I get for the bike and additional goodies that have come along with it.

I was quoted $4000 through Geico, $2300 through Progressive, $2100 through Bike-Line, and $189 through State Farm. No that isn't a typo. That was with Comp/Collision at $500 ded.

I know they work since that is who I had when my bike got stolen and within 45 days I had an insurance check sent to the lien holder.

About $132/yr; $100 deductable; full coverage with USAA. But I also have several policies with them.
