Default BMW S1000RR wants 2009 WSBK title.

BMW is rumored to want to conquer the Japanese bikes in the 2009 WSBK. Here is the bike below.

Where did you get these pics? It looks nothing like a BMW! I hope it is though cause I like it. I thought it was a ZX10 for a minute.

I got the pics here: BMW S1000RR World Superbike - The Kneeslider

And here is the Cycle World article: Cycle World - First Look: BMW S1000RR

There is also a photo gallery!

You say you want this bike then you better be prepared to spend 35-45K!

What's so special about it? Conventional I4 engine, conventional suspension, nauseatingly average styling: outdated at least 5 years... And the price tag of $25K. Would you choose it over truly exotic bikes in that price range: MV Agusta or KTM RC8? BMW is just playing catchup.

I think you nailed it with your last sentence. The fact they are trying to compete in the "sportsbike" market is what's different. But for 25K they need to try harder.

It kinda reminds me of Buell which is also trying and yes, they've gotten better, but the Big Four didn't rest either. KTM is also new to sportbikes but they decided to create a masterpiece (at least stylistically) instead of copying 5-7y.old designs to capture [bike night] demographics.

I can visualize that conversation among BMW "forward thinkers":
"I think, our demographics is rapidly aging. The median BMW motorcycle owner age is approaching 56"
"We need to offer something to younger buyers. What kind of motorcycle they favor?"
"Our research indicates it's GSXR-1000 and ZX-10R"
"Let's blend together GSXR-1000 and ZX-10R"
