Submit all stories to SPEED@sportbikeswest.com by Oct 1 2006. corpse_grinder0's story - Pahrump Oct 21/22 2006: It was Friday around noon. I was leaving work EARLY (wahooo), and calling my buddy Paul who stayed the night at my house, to make sure he had everything packed and ready to go…. No answer… get home, find him still sleeping on my couch!?! Woke his ass up, to find he didn’t pack or even finish working on his bike… so we immediately went into the garage, drilled his frame slider hole, finished mounting the bodywork, got the rest of everything together and finally left around 2:30. Wow, was there traffic… I think bumper to bumper from the 91, to the 15 north all the way past rancho. Finally reached Pahrump, at around 8 or 8:30... The drive way way way way too long… but at least we were finally there. Checked in at the nugget, and crashed early. Next morning, the alarm came way too soon, I was very nervous, since I hadn’t been to the track in over 6 months, since I went to Streets of Willow with Take it 2 the track (big thanks to Mike (speed) for that one!). I was also extra nervous since ive never been to Pahrump.. I decided to try to put the nerves aside and get out there and get it done. In the first session, I was all over the place, using bad lines, everything bad. It wasn’t till my pal the little racer Paul E. came and found me and showed me some lines around the track. I was still getting past like crazy, but I was at least able to hold a predictable and strong line, so ppl could get around me safetly. The soreness immediately started to take effect after lunch… not riding in such a long time really took its toll. I started feeling stronger and faster in the end of the day, but the soreness was overwhelming, so I only went out for half sessions. After the track day, I went out with everyone to the nugget, buffet, and then to the casino, where I proceeded to loose some money, but have fun doing it. It wasn’t till Paul E. took me to some nascar bar and bought me what seemed like an endless amount of drinks till I had some REAL fun!!!!, he said it was our little celebration of me turning 21, earlier in the week (the 17th). Went back to the hotel , and slept relatively well… The next morning, didn’t feel so hot, but for some reason, my nerves were gone, and I was able to focus more on riding without the fear… and the speed started to come back, and instead of getting passed like crazy, I was starting to pass others. It wasn’t until I passed 4 ppl in turn 2, I knew I had it back. And started just having a blast tossing and turning out there. I road almost every session, with my body hurting less. It wasn’t fun packing up and leaving, and such a long drive back, but it was all worth it, and I cant wait to go back! |
