I would like to go Mike. I'm doing Buttonwillow this weekend with Hypercycles and if I like it I'm 95% sure at the moment that I'll sign up. It'll involve me being rather harshly sick during the busiest day of the month at work... cough cough i can feel it coming on now... besides! my birthday is the 5th! it's like a present to me.

Just don't use the "highlighter" trick. Ever since the commercials it hasn't worked at the office.

I moved to Santa Monica about 5 months ago, sold my '03 R6 to do so, and told myself I would get a bike as soon as I got out here. Well, I am picking up an '06 600RR on Saturday and planning a trackday in October. A few people have told me that Buttonwillow is one of the more technical tracks in California, so I'd like to try it.

I've done track school in New Hampshire at Loudon a few times, and have almost all of the gear, the only thing I am missing is a way of transporting the bike. It is possible I could trailer it with my Honda S2000, but I would prefer not to.

Is there anyone who would be willing to help me out, or is getting a UHaul and wants to share/split it with me?

Any other help for a SoCal newbie is appreciated.

You are going to love this track and the people who attend this event.

Careful though, don't leave any food out or bend over in front of the coordinator....

I heard that Buttonwillow was one of the more technical tracks, so I'm pretty psyched. Loudon is a little on the insane side for technical, in fact, the AMA won't race there anymore because it is too dangerous. But I loved the elevation changes and how it rewarded precision in corners and form, rather than the subtle power differences on some bikes.

What part of santa monica are you in? I live and work in SM too. I'm towing my bike up but dont have room for a 4th bike (have mine and 2 others already in the truck/trialer combo).
I can at least help you out with info since I used to always rent uhaul trailers for the trackdays (I only just weeks ago bought a trailer for myself). I've rented them at Lincoln/10fwy at least a dozen times if not more. renting trucks or vans will be costly since they charge by the mile too. Figure towing a trailer it might take you 2hrs 15 min to get there from SM. Thats what it usually takes for me.

Buttonwillow is technical but still has some good fast sections and overall it flows really well. Streets at Willow Springs is even more technical (you'll be lucky to get out of 3rd there). the big track at Willow springs is fast and wide...not very technical at all but if you like big speed-I mean really big speed, like 145mph with your knee down speed, thats the track for you. Its also only an hour away. Fontana is good too, doesnt flow as well as BW and its got really fast and really slow sections. also about an hr away, but the trackdays there are costly-2x or more any other trackdays...but its a very nice, well kept track.

this is buttonwillow in the configuration we'll be doing on Oct 1:

I'm off of Santa Monica Blvd near 26th. A co-worker of mine might be willing to let me borrow his 4Runner that week if he goes away, or if I trust him with my car; I'd only need to rent a trailer then.

I was considering doing a trackday at Streets on the 26th of October also. I really want to start getting some time in on the track. The price for BW and Willow seem pretty reasonable so far, I had heard that Fontana was more expensive, but nice. I would like the opportunity to try as many of the tracks around here as I can. It's a nice change to have options, the North East is limited to Loudon in NH and the Poconos (which is in need of repair).

Any help is welcome, I've never done a trackday before, only school. I loved every min of it.

I'm on 20th, btwn wilshire and montana. office is on lincoln across from the english pub (near marine). my bike is parked outside the bike shop on Lincoln adn pico daily...at least until I get around to trailering it back to the garage, lol.

streets is good too. most trackdays are around $130ish and up. cal speedway is $275 or so. if you can do an overnight trip you can hit Pahrump too, which people say is really good too but I've never been.
