iTrader: (0) Rep Power: 7 (22) | From NBCSanDiego.com: Jury Convicts Cop Killer Gang Member Guilty Of 1st-Degree Murder In Cop's Death POSTED: 2:23 pm PST November 14, 2005 UPDATED: 5:41 pm PST November 14, 2005 VISTA, Calif. -- After deliberating for less than two days, a North County jury found a documented gang member guilty of first-degree murder for the 2003 killing of a rookie Oceanside policeman. A penalty trial to begin Nov. 28 will determine whether Adrian Camacho, 30, should be executed or spend life in prison without parole for gunning down Officer Tony Zeppetella in the parking lot of the Navy Federal Credit Union in June 2003. The seven-woman, five-man jury in Vista deliberated for about four hours before coming to a decision on a verdict. The jury supported two special-circumstance allegations -- that Camacho committed murder to avoid arrest and that he killed a police officer -- making Camacho eligible for the death penalty. Camacho put his head down when the verdicts were read. His wife, Stacey, was sobbing and shaking uncontrollably. Camacho turned toward her and put his finger to his lips. Stacey was treated for hyperventilation after the verdict was read. Zeppetella's widow, Jamie, was in the courtroom for the verdict. She did not speak to reporters after the verdict was read, which she had planned to do, because of a request made by prosecutors. Her attorney, Greg Emerson, said she was gratified by the trial's outcome. Camacho's public defenders did not deny that he was the gunman; rather, they argued that mental illness stemming from years of heroin abuse prevented him from premeditating the killing. http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/5324...04460211142005

| Canyon Carver | Yip, there was no question this illegal alien shot the police officer in cold blood. The only question is does this guy get the death penalty... Very sad for the family of the officer that was killed back in 2003..... :thumbdown Kent |

Another thing that I find quite sad is what things like this do to the families of the convicted individuals, as their lives never go back to normal either. I know it is totally different, but it does so much damage to so many people.

| Spammer | I was amazed it took the jury 4 hours to give the verdict. Seriously, "the drugs made me do it" is getting to be a common deffence these days, but who made you do the drugs jack hole.
