Jk, Calling 911 will teach these people who are proably repeated drunk drivers that they will get caught.

well I've gotten the CHP dispatch every time I call on my cell anyway, and they keep telling me I have the wrong number I need to call the local PD....always fun to call 911, and get a wrong number, glad I've never had a OMG emergency where it woulda made a difference.

I'd report plate, descriprtion, location, direction of travel. Other than that, it's their job to handle it. Sometimes it's good to be a concerned citizen, but where do you draw the line. I saw an article a couple years ago where someone tried to get a drunk driver to pull over by honking and flashing thier lights, the DD crashed, and successfully sued the would be do gooder. Justice gone bad=true.

So it looks like most say it's a good idea to take the time to make the call.....

Default Yup,that too.

I've called 911 to report drunk drivers, road raged drivers and a man with a gun.
Also, when I was 14 I reported a fire in the Carlsbad forest (Hosp Grove.) I was on my yamaha 100 at the time. I ended up "leading" the fire dept to the small brush fire.(I felt like I was "in charge!") They couldn't find it. It was small. Glad they got to it before it grew and homes were lost. They didn't have 911 back then.
Wanna hear something scary?
The phone # to the fire dept was 729-1144.

Even MORE scary is the CPD # was 729-7102

Scariest thing of all? We had "party lines"
Our home phone # was PArkway9-8072

My dad's office # was SArasota2-2266 in O'side.

Do you guys even know how to dial numbers like this?

Our area code was 213
then split to 714
then split again to 619
then split again to 760.

We had 1 area code for Los Angeles to the Mexican border. Crap,I'm getting old! SHUT UP,DARRYN! :moon

I've never had to call 911, but I have apprehended a DD and held him while a friend went to get the police up the road.

Interestingly enough over the holiday weekend they had the signs reading "Report Drunk Drivers, Dial 911."

I dunno abotu 911... I would like to think that's reserved for emergencies... not preventative measures.

Back in Ohio we had another number to call... 1-800-GRAB-DUI. I wonder if somethign like that out here might be a better solution... or is that 1-800-TELL-CHP it?

Sunday when we went up to SOW there was a drunk driver in front of us. He was all over the road, and almost ran completely off a couple of times. I called it in, then we got the hell out of there!!!

Dialing 911 from a cell phone will connect you to CHP dispatch if I recall correctly.

It is 1-800-TELL-CHP, but that is for none emergency situations (tow assistance, breakdowns, location of an officer)

On the case of a impaired driver, which is considered a hazardous road condition and should be treated as an emergency. So just dial 911
