iTrader: (5) Rep Power: 15 (42) | With gas prices sky rocketing & summer almost here, there is going to be a huge influx of new riders. Please take the time to offer advice on how important good gear is & if possible offer to become a mentor. We all know what it's like to be a newbie & lots of us can honestly say it would have been nice for some quality time with a good rider/mentor. Sometimes they just don't care to listen but sometimes they do..... it's worth a shot :thumbup |

iTrader: (0) Rep Power: 4 (33) | We've lost two riders so far here in Ridgecrest the past few months. Both of them doing stupid sutff. One was doing a wheelie and hit a median -died shortly after in the hospital. The other happened this past weekend. The rider was speeding in a 35mph zone (aprox 70mph from witness reports), a van made a left in front of him =splat. He might of survived alittle better, but he never straps his helmet -which flew off after the initial impact. He's laid up in the hostipal with a 20% chance of survival. Both of these guys are new to the sport. Both thought they had the last name of Rossi. Hopefully, this will humble some of these fools out there. (AND QUIT MAKING A BAD NAME FOR THE REST OF US!!!!) Its kinda wierd, but I feel no remorse for these guys. In fact, if I would have seen either accident, I'm not sure I would of stopped to help them. I think its cause I don't consider them fellow riders, but instead punks! So to all you punks out there: Settle the **** down! not cool :thumbdown |

There's another guy who wheelies through the same intersection everytime (at lest he says so). I 'expressed' my concern as a fellow rider -he just laughed and thought I was joking with him (this was last night right after we talked about the guy who is currently laid up in the hospital). His reply was talking to me about a wheelie he pulled leaving Bakersfield and the wind almost threw his bike over (and the 6 tickets he's gotten lately -but none of them in town so its ok, so he says). After that talk, I was pretty upset and won't ride with the guy ever -nor will I teach him anything about respect for the road, himself, cars, the machine between his legs, etc. unless he talks to me about riding. To play Devils Advocate: I guess I'm just dodging responsibility here? If I want safe roads, without a stereotype, then I should be constantly talking with these guys right? I just don't want to go riding with a punch of idiots trying to show off instead of just enjoying a ride through beautiful SoCal. Anyone have thoughts?

Funny story: I'm getting ready to take off from work the other night & a new rider was coming out to the bike area. I asked if he rode the R-6 & he said yes. I asked if he rides the canyons & he said "No, I'm into stunting!" I said stunting is OK, but the real fun is tearing it up at the track.... he remarked...... "Must be an age thing!" :pat :spit :laughing

| Squid | HAHA! I think I said that very sentence to you once Mike... But I have to say you were very accepting and I decided to give the track a try, and LOVED it!!!! Anyone can buy a bike and get the front tire off the gound and call themselves a stunter. But the real skill of a rider comes out on the track. While I still love the feel of a good wheelie, I have come to understand that there is a time and a place for everything. I guess my point is if Mike had told me how "stupid or dumb" i was for trying to be a stunter I would have wanted to do it even more. (showing the immaturity of my youth). But by being that accepting made me that much more willing to listen to any advice he had to give.....

iTrader: (0) Rep Power: 6 (56) | I've seen quite a few out there in t-shirts, no gloves, tennis shoes, jacket on but not zipped up and I sadly shake my head. I don't know about the rest of you, but when I was young I had the mindset that it wouldn't happen to me because I'm smarter, stronger and had youth on my side. I've had my fair share of injuries and wish I had listened to the old-timers (my parents). I didn't listen and yeah, I'm still around but I'm paying for it. Now, I'm older, don't think I know it all, and want to live a long life filled with all the blessings life can give. I no longer need to prove myself to anyone. Sometimes folks don't listen when you have something important to say, others need proof. Maybe showing pics of what happens when you don't wear the right gear, stunt on public roads, race, cross double yellow, etc. will show newbies the reality (and proof) behind those words of wisdom. There's always going to be the ones that blow you off, but maybe just maybe you reach one or two and make a difference. But, that'll never happen if you don't try to reach out first. |

iTrader: (0) Rep Power: 0 (14) | I know that I really don't have too much time in the saddle and I don't want to offend anyone here seeing as this appears to always be a sensitive subject with many that ride. I don't ride crazy or stupid. But I think that is due to two people S-EX636 and speedextreme16 who took the time out to show me how I should ride not as much skill as thinking about how to ride. I thank them for helping me and getting me out of my squid mode. I am still the slowest rider in my group but I also know that thanks to some friends letting me know that it's cool to ride within your comfort level and not your ego level. (Well aside from that first wreck when I tried to keep up with them, but that was the first and last time). So for some the lesson must be learned the hard way. Be it painful for them or for their families. R.I.P. - Tony Gora be you right or wrong when riding I still wish you were riding among use. :sorry

No worries about overcoming the squid mode, I think everyone has it in them at sometime in thier riding careers. Anytime you're ready for a ride -call me. Maybe this weekend? Whacha think Speedextreme16, rrwntr? Just a little something to K-ville and back?
