As we all know, if you grab the front brake as hard as you can on a bike, that is a great recipe for a slamdance on the asphalt. If you make the student actually think about the motion it takes to reach up and apply the front brake correctly, they are less likely to grab the brake in a panic situation. With the proper experience, covering the front brake should not be a problem.
That is good to know - I have never wrenched on the front brake - but I think I have to stop doing it for the last class ~ Will I be failed for covering my brake?

Are you taking the Basic or Experience rider course? There is technically not a way to "fail" you for covering your front brake, however the Ridercoach will tell you repeatedly to stop doing it, and if you don't, you may be dropped for not following directions. Just remember that when you reach for your brake it is a slow, steady, progressive squeeze, not an all out grab, and you will be fine.

I teach in Chula Vista for Pacific Safety Council. Classroom sessions are in Mira Mesa, range sessions are down south.

I was not. I only teach every couple of weeks or so. I will be there this Saturday, though. Are you doing range II on Saturday or Sunday?

We are really on the same page.
It's like the rear brake. People are taught not to use it. Well, that's dumb. Use it CORRECTLY. It helps you stop, for goodness sake.

I heard an old adage, "grey haired riders don't get that from pure luck!"

I think a footnote is require: unless they are on a harley with less than a thousand miles. Damn doctors and lawyers!
