I would join that if we got it together - I'm not allergic to anything either, and if I ever break a bone please give me jagger for the pain. I can't seem to feel anything when I drink that.

I need to do the ICE thing....

Hey All. Recently, Ryan S. (from socal-sportbikes) put together a group for First Aid/CPR/Motorcycle Accident Scene Management over at Intuit. It was worth every penny. From what I heard, the course was better than the Red Cross training, although I couldn't say from personal experience. The instructor's name is Thom Somes--he's a friend, so if anyone is interested, I can put you in touch with him. On another subject entirely, Thom also teaches first aid for pets--pretty innovative concept. Maya and I plan to take that course in a couple months.

From what we learned in our course (please correct me if I'm mistaken, Anyone), a person rendering assistance at an accident scene cannot be financially liable--even if he/she is untrained. According to Thom Somes, the Good Samaritan Law applies to the state of CA. Can't remember exactly how it's worded, but basically, you are allowed to use any method to the extent of your knowledge or skill level. The precise way it is phrased apparently protects you from liability.

Good idea re info on the helmet. I think that some people have wallet cards as well.

Attending a triage/CPR class is a good thing.

One thing we can all do now is list our blood type on the backs of our helmets.
Also, any allergies. (This is very important.) If no allergies, then label "NKA" meaning "No known allergies." EMT's are trained to look on your helmet.

EMT's are also trained to scroll through your cell phone numbers, looking for "ICE" after names. This means "In case of emergency."

Might be a good idea to open your phone now and edit "ICE" beside important names right now...

Joy Medvin of the JOy of Motorcycling classes in San Diego is a teacher of a national course called Accident Scene Management. It is a day long course that deals specifically with being the first responder at a Bike accident. I took it last fall and found it to be excellent. I now carry a pretty comprehensive first aid kit on my bike at all times.

Everyone who rides these wonderful machines of ours should get themselves an ICE necklace made. It can be something as simple as a piece of paper with the info written on it. I laminate it and put it on a lightweight necklace.

Cell phones can be destroyed in a crash, so they're unreliable as a notification tool. In my last little encounter with terra firma up near Julian, my cell phone was thrown over 100 feet from the crash site, and was damaged beyond usable.

On mine I have:
Name
Address
Emergency Contact Names & Numbers
Blood Type
Allergies
Current Medications
Health Insurance Info
Brief Medical History on the back.

I also keep a copy of this info inside the pocket of my leathers.
