Default HOV sign petition

Just came across this >> Put "Motorcycles OK" signs up on all California HOV (carpool) lanes Petition << as a side note due to the recent Showings on NBC and FOX concerning lane splitting laws and such.

I think I saw this around somewhere before (maybe here?) since I'm around #2000 and it's up to 2800 or so.

NBC news Video link here -->> Digg - Who dugg or blogged: Is Lane Splitting Legal for Motorcycles?

Watched that last night. Not as informative as it could have been, would have been nice if the officer explained that trying to squeeze some out while lane sharing is assault. A turn signal mention would have been nice too.

+1, the story had a lot more potential, they could have actually looked up the law, debated with the CHP about speeds, location of where to pass and what could happen to somebody who tries/succeeds in hitting a biker when they are sharing lanes, oh and wear proper safety gear while filming something that they probably wrote off to public safety.

Oh yeah Gwen and I were cracking up over his breakfast bowl for a helmet and open jacket. Did he have on fingerless gloves?

I think they did a good job of explaining that motorcycles are not evil for lane sharing. Once we get everyone on board with that people will not be so inclined to try and kill us.

Looked up what law? There is NO law about lanesharing. N O N E.

It's a gray area. It's not illegal nor is it quite legal. It's permissible leaving wide berth for LEO discretion. If you're cited for "lanesharing" you will be written for an infraction under the CVC to include: unsafe passing, passing without signal, improper lane change all the way up to reckless operation.

Just for trivia, who knows who the biggest proponent of it is and why did it start?
