Default Hand Signals

I was at Palomar on Saturday and saw a few riders tap the top of their head/helmet. This is a signal I haven't seen before. What were they trying to communicate?

Law enforcement (cops) nearby.

I heard there were lots of people blowing over the double yellow on Palomar this weekend. Did you notice any?

(Or were you one of them?)

I didn't see anyone crossing over double yellows or CHP going up or down S6, but i was there between 11 and 1. Not very many people up there too, i did see someone get pulled over when I left just after the entrance to S6.

Another motorcyclist tapping his/her helmet is a universal sign of a cop nearby. I thought this was standard knowledge when you ride a motorcycle? Maybe not?

I didn't know that for my first 5 or 6 months. The first time I saw it was from a Harley (chopper) dude on Santiago. The cop was right around the corner. Seeing him I immediately realized what that signal meant.

Yeah I tend to use the helmet tap a lot. It seems to be the most understood. It was taught to me by a friend at work.
