| Canyon Carver | The good the bad and the toothless... Arrived Friday after one hell of a drive out... Rudely awakened Saturday morning @ 3:00am Pahrump Nugget spotted me $2500 at 4:00am since I wasn't sleeping Saturday kinda blew for me first session out 3rd lap I came into three hot and dragged my right toe hard before my knee hit then on the 4th lap I almost went dirt biking when I blew the right in the chicane and stood the bike up before entering turn 4 only rode another session and a half that day I was too tired and out of it and it was too hot for my fat arse to concentrate. Sunday Sunday Sunday...much better day rode all but 1 session got faster every session and I learned a lot this starting all over thing is hard for me. A big Thank You to Tyler for helping out with lines and my foot postion my weak side is now my strong side. I'm a turtle I know it, quite frankly my confidence level is very low, and I'm working on building it back up slowly and smoothly while riding properly. Ryan, Garret, Brian, Mark, James, Ray and Troy were all throwing it down hard core I was really impressed! Tyler and Mark dicing it up along with Scott and Ronnie and a few others were great fun to watch. James kicked ass on the fizzer up until the incident :bitchslap Weve got some work to do mister! All the 400 racers at WSMC look out. Ely looked great until his turn 1 incident. I'm really glad there were not serious injuries. It was a great time just being around everybody. I'm glad I was there I had a good time and the Pahrump Nugget paid for my weekend :thumbup

iTrader: (0) Rep Power: 0 (22) | So Pahrump was a great weekend of testing and trying some different things, but on my 11th session of the weekend I went down again. I was riding Freakshow's racebike, a 1990 FZR400. I'm totally unhurt, thanks to my gear, and thankfully the bike isn't too bad at all. I ramble on quite a bit, I know, but I only post this stuff because I always like reading what other people did wrong, so I can learn from it. So feel free to use me as an example of what NOT to do, it wouldn't be the first time. I had pushed the front in the first session coming out of turn 2, and it gave me a bit of a start, as I was trying to learn so many things about the bike. Fortunately, I at least knew the track, so I didn't have that to figure out on top of it. We made some suspension and rider adjustments after that session, and I didn't have a problem with that section the whole rest of the weekend. I just had to learn little things like where the powerband was, how it handles the various types of turns, how well the tires worked, how to get a good drive coming out of the turns, riding a bike with an actual aggressive riding position, riding a bike with a fairly functional suspension...little things. So I mostly went pretty slow most of the day Saturday, and only pushed hard on sections I got very familiar with. And the day went well, despite the tires never really giving me much confidence. We had some overheating problems (bike AND rider) a few times and sessions got cut short, but luckily the overflow from the radiator spilling onto the rear tire didn't create any problems. Sunday, the weather started out much cooler, and I could run it longer. We fixed the overflow problem, and I realized that it wasn't the cause of the tires slipping every so often. A few sessions, I got on it quite hard, trying to see if the bike could run with an SV (part of the plan ;-)), and trying to learn the track a little better by following Tryful. But the whole weekend, I probably only even touched a knee down 15 times? I was too timid with it being Sean's bike, and so many new variables. The last session I went out, it had quieted down a bit, so the track looked fairly open, and I was just going to work on my lines I had been learning from Tryful and Ryan earlier. I did a full warmup lap, then was only going about 60% with the exception of a pack of bikes that had just come onto the track for a warmup lap that I passed fairly aggressively, so I could get into the clear to work on lines. On the third lap, I come down the front straight into turn 1, and go about 70% into the turn. I was not wound all the way up down the front, had waved at Jerry (Shaggy's brother) as I went by the start/finish, and was just trying to smoothly enter the turn (working on the lines). Jerry said I looked good going in. I don't know how fast I was going (no speedo...not that I'd have looked, anyway), but the front started to wash out just as I tipped it over into the turn. I tried riding through it, but it didn't grab again. Now it probably was like a quarter of a second when I say I tried riding through it, but it had always caught again before, and I never hit the brake or any of that, just stayed on the throttle gently. So it falls over to the right, windshield explode in my face, and I'm on my side, sliding. I still had ahold of the right grip, and I was sliding kind of parrallel to the edge of the track. I didn't want the bike to tumble, and I wanted to hit the dirt feet first, so I yank on the bar to twist myself around to feet first, on my back, and hopefully try to slow the bike down (since again, it's not mine, and I gotta replace anything that breaks off of it!). Now I'm coasting on my back (yay for Alpinestars full back-width back protectors!), holding my head up, sliding feet first, watching the bike I'm still trying to drag to a stop spin on it's side, so it's now gonna hit the rapidly-approaching dirt tail-first. As soon as the bike hit the dirt, the cloud of rocks and dirt blinded me, and I let go of the bike, knowing that this would be the time it's gonna tumble, if it was going to do so, covered my face and kept my chin and elbows tucked. Sliding over the rocks wasn't that bad, but I knew the bike was now off to my side, and I may hit it at kind of an angle, if it stops before I do, so I rolled onto my left side now, in hopes that if I do hit it, it'll be with my back protector, instead of my sore ribs. I probably only slid 10 more feet like that, but long enough to hit a rock or 20 with my left thigh, so I'll now be having a bruise to match the one I got on the right at Buttonwillow. Came to a stop, didn't feel any pain, so I got up in case anyone was fixating on me, and to let the track people know I was okay. Jerry came over to me and helped me lift the bike, but it wouldn't start, so we got the truck to come right over and load it up. Snapped a footpeg off, bent the right clipon forward (it went backwards into the dirt), and chummed up the race plastics a little bit. Thankfully all easily repairable stuff. Funny part was starting it back up in the pits, and since it went in assfirst into the dirt, we shot rocks out of the exhaust. I know the tires gave away, but I was really smooth going into that turn, and not hard on it at all. I think going so slowly around the track the first few laps, perhaps didn't warm up the tires quite enough, anyway. I only got on it hard for 2 turns on the previous lap, then was just cruising to focus on the lines. But either way, I didn't like those tires to begin with, and didn't bother to learn anything about them before riding it. So I'm not at all blaming the tires for me crashing...I was the one at the controls, so it of course is all my fault. AGV-Sport suit has still held up well, but it may be time to repair or retire it. Burned through a few spots, mostly on those patches, which I should just take off, anyway, since they look so stupid . Deatherage gloves held up fine again, but burned about halfway through the pinky knuckle, trying to hold onto the bike. They're still good. Thankfully I didn't hit my head this time, since Ado loaned me his Rossi helmet (he said it was worthless to him since it wasn't a Biaggi helmet ). Although after cleaning the dust off, I do see a tiny chip on the back, so if that wasn't there when you gave it to me Adrian, I'll get you a new one! I think Matt & Aaron of Takeit2thetrack are gonna start charging me double for trackdays, now... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

iTrader: (1) Rep Power: 6 (47) | Well I personally had a great time out there. I was in the A group on Sat and damn, I got more than enough time on the track. I was so beat after the day had ended. I am now in need of a new set of tires and a new set of knee sliders. My pucks are thrashed. I even had to turn one of them upside down because it was getting close to rubbing the leather down. Scott and your brother, man that was some good riding with you two. It was good going back and forth like that all day Sat. Mike, what the hell man, I thought you were going to be out there "riding" my ass, but I think I only saw you out in the C group. :laughing Kent good job on the pics man, and thanks for the stickers to throw on the newly painted bike. Aaron and Matt, thanks for another wonderful day at the track, and for the stickers for the bike. Motrfinger, I tried to hook up with you, but you were in the C group, so everytime I was in the pits, you were out on the track. No biggie though. Great times!!!!!! :thumbup
