Default Buttonwillow Oct 20th recap.......Pablo, you OK?

Got this from another board....

Quote:
For 1 hot lap... A retard on a supermoto decided to stuff Pablo from socalsportbikes on the inside in the last corner to start/finish. In that attempt to stuff, he lowsided. In seeing this, Pablo tucked his bike and broke his collar bone. IDIOT!

Hope you aren't too bad off Pablo. GET WELL SOON!!

I was taking NRS at the time, but I did happen to notice a bike that looked like Pablo's in a crash truck. Sucked to find out it was him. I heard different accounts on Barf today but I guess it was one of those incidents where the 6 foot rule was not followed by the other. Dont know exactly what happened though. I just hope hes ok.

Dude it was awesome, Z2's NRS is probably one of the best out there, the cirriclum covered EVERYTHING one would ever need to prepare for racing, not just get around in X minutes without crashing and youre good. you know? They covered passing on the track, did drills, helped me with sections I had issues with and even clocked a personal best of 1:58:60!!!! my best lap was a 2:01 before this! Oh man it was great. We did classroom from 6-10pm the night before and did the entire day with a final eval at the last session. Thanks for asking Speed. :thumbup
I wont be there however this final weekend due to finances this time. But for sure in 06.

Sorry to derail Pablos thread, hope your ok Pablo!!

We can talk about whatever happened on that day in this thread since it's a BW recap thread with a little "Pablo" thrown in, lol.

Sounds like something I'd like to check out next year sometime!! Thanks for the info, we'll have to discuss it further in person while we're in Pahrump next month :thumbup

Found this on another board as well...

The sensation of my vision fading to white freaked me out a little. Came back just as easily 5-10 minutes later.

well, you're all curious as to what specifically happened, I'm sure. So here it is.

I was dicing it up with a guy, John, I had met once or twice before. He was on a 'tard and we were keeping a good pace. Zoom-Zoom allows inside passing in the B group (6ft clear though). Bad Idea IMO. In an attempt to keep in front of me, John was making very bad passes, stuffing people badly. I had just gotten past him exiting the Esess and we were heading tward the final (left) turn, catching up to a few riders. I went to the far right side, the racing line, and John came in really deep on the inside line...I mean he was all the way over a the inside edge of pavement, going into the turn. I saw him and knew it wasn't good-for him.

Sure enough, John loses the front and slides BETWEEN the two riders. The second rider slams his brakes as he stands it up, locking his wheels up. This is where I made my fatal error. Instead of focusing down the straight and committing to a tighter line, or looking off the turn and standing it up, riding it out into the dirt...Instead of that, I tried to stop the bike while focused on the bike in front of me. At the last minute I decided to try making the turn. As soon as I let off the brakes the front went out from under me and I was slammed to the ground, onto my left side.

Ultimately I blame a series of things. I am partly to blame for continuing the cat-and-mouse with John and for panicking/target fixating. He is partly to blame for riding like an A$$ . Zoom-zoom is partly to blame for inside passing allowed in B group (I just dont think thats a good idea with fast riders that dont have the skill and judgement of racers). Fault lies with me though, most of all.

Damage to me, besides collarbone is bruising on right butt cheek (from tumbling?) and to me left rib/back area.

Damage to bike (as best we looked at it so far), track fairings (L side, tail, upper) scuffed. Upper missing 3" chunk, making it two peices, also cracked in 2 places. passenger peg scraped. Frame slider and swingarm spool carried the bike, protecting from more damage. Front fender scraped, L barend snapped off, L switchgear missing small cap. Varius fairing screws either missing or ground up a bit. Starts up and runs fine. A more thorough examination is necessary. I'll need help patching up the fiberglass upper though. most of the bike damage is to the "pre-crashed" trackday plastics I bough for just such an event-so they paid for themselves!

I think Zoom-zoom ran a damn fine trackday and I was pleased overall. If I could give some constructive criticism to them (I will contact them with this) its that a) the B group has the biggest disparity between abilities (skills, judgement, etc as I said above) that I don't think its a good idea and I hope they reconsider this policy, and b) the red flag, for zoom-zoom means stop on track where you are...I've never seen that and it may be more common than I know but it seems safer the way the other trackday orgs do it, where red flag means come in at slow pace.

I had a kick- A$$ time until the "crack"...good seeing so many of you.

thanks everyone. feel alright. sometimes a little dull pain from shoulder and sharp pains from bruised ribs if i move certain ways...not bad enough to need pain meds yet though.

bike's good. subframe might be a little tweaked but ill probably leave it be. ill be learning a little 'glass repair to get the trackday upper back into one peice-its still on the bike, just not connected, right to left, by a 3" chunk thats missing. other odds and ends i need i can pick up on ebay.

all my gear looks fine except little scrapes on the jacket and the helmet is trash of course. replacing the arai will hurt $$.

wife's been cool about it too-but a little freaked. she hasnt asked me to sell it...but there's still time...

bummed im gonna miss fontana on the 26th though. was really looking forward to that. it'll have to wait.

crashing sucks, even WITH all your gear on. lol...
