| Canyon Carver | I'll start this off but let me warn you up front, neither the names or the events of this script have been changed to protect anyone, least of the innocent. So, go to the rest room, grab your favorite beverage, get comfy and enjoy the read...... My epic adventure started oh say, about 3 months ago when our beloved founder of this board called me out, taunting me if you will to join him at Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City, UTAH. I floundered for days. Still the taunting continued. Tailhook meant nothing to this man, the gaunlet was in place and wasn't going to dissappear until I either submitted to his will or, sold my bike and shredded my leathers. I caved obviously, after many PM's and emails to the orchestrator of this event, on BWHIP (FBO.ORG) the deal was done. Money was sent and the taunting relented. Didn't stop, relented. Our oh so great moderator recruited a few of our own JakeR1, lovinmyf4i, speedextreme and the one and only RRWANTR. We attempted to recruit ROADDOG as well but I think that was for SPEED's, AHEM, personal needs, wants and, desires. Sorry SPEED, maybe next time. So, with all this you might think there would peace and harmony in the world. Oh no that shall not come to pass in this age. Smack talk continued on the FBO site, and it continued. Time passed as slow as it ever has, something like Christmas Eve passes when we are 8. You could swear the hands on the clock actually turned backwards. All of the sudden it was upon us. Time to load up and move 'em out. Cut to Friday Sept 1, 2006. It is a Friday night in the desert. Nothing is stirring except for Mojave954. We have all been there, the pre-trackday checklist, bike-check, KEY-CHECK (put that in the truck while we are thinking about it), tools, maintenance manuals, gloves, helmet, leathers, check, check, check, check. Bag packed for the morning, coffee ready. Alrighty of to bed. Toss and turn all night rolling it over, the checklist now complete many times over. Saturday 2SEP06 The alarm goes off.... since this is a day to go to pre-stage with speedextreme, get in the morning run. Pull everything out of the truck and re-pack and over the check list one more time. Off to ROADDOG's. Hat's off to this fellow rider. He allowed us to use his trailer to haul extreme's and wantrs bike to SLC. Thanks man, 1000 times over. Get to ROADDOG's hang out for awhile. Slide over and visit with my kids (they live in Ridgecrest). Cool, lovin seein them, even take them to dinner. All is well. Slide over and visit some more with Roaddog, then off to extreme's. We get everything loaded, extremem's bike, wantr's bike, all the gear. Get it all locked down and check it twice. SPEEDEXTREME makes a last minute call that probably saved wantr's bike. He didn't like the way wantr's straps were holding. The "S" wasn't deep enough and didn't seem to be holding to his satisfaction. We err'ed on the side of caution and swapped out the straps. Said straps were used on the back. Good call Extreme. The straps came OFF the back several times during the trip out. Wantr, you owe him a beer. Finally, all is ready. Time for bed. Sunday, 3SEP06 This damn alarm is getting on my nerves. Extreme and I are up at crack-ass. Run through the rain locker (not at the same time), some food, some coffee and we are off. 395S to15E and not looking back. The trip up goes without a hitch. My, new to me truck, operates flawlessly. Every stop we check the straps. Redo wantr's rear straps until we just say, "Fugged it, and threw them in the back". Finally, SLC. We got to see some awesom country on the way up. No major traffic. Just great. That night, oh man, that night. We meet up, speed, speed extreme, BWHIP, we are off to Biaggi's. An upscale place to take your family for an ENJOYABLE, RELAXING ITALIAN MEAL, THAT IS UNTIL 30 BIKERS SHOW UP. So the hostess shows us to our table, we all meet, greet and, take a seat. At my end we have, speed, extreme, jaker1, lovinmyf4i and me. BWHIP is in the middle and the other end has some wine sippin' canucks. I know, Canadian and drinkin' wine. Oh yeah, there was one FINE and I mean FINE looking woman down there too. YOWZA.... In the interest of not keeping the gentle reader to long I will spare you all the gory details of dinner but will note this, there were two very well passed around lemons, 3 beers spilled (two by speed and all ended up on jaker1's lap), speed requesting more napkins and of course speed getting hit on by the gay waiter. Please, feel free to draw you own conclusions with all that information. By far the California end of the table was the rowdiest and the most entertaining of the night. Mostly cause we didn't bring our women and had no need or desire to behave. All was well. Good nights were exchange as well as wanting as well as needing glances bewteen speed and our waiter. The tension ladies and gentlemen was, ummm "sticky". Monday, Monday, Monday..... 4SEP06, Oh man, the sun breaks the horizon. We are up and at 'em. For once RRWANTR is not only on time but early. Extreme, wantr and I are off to the track. The track is very easy to get to. The pictures do not do this place justice. It is awe-inspiring. We are met at the gate, names are checked to ensure we are on "the-list". Yeah baby through the gate. And oh get this, NO GATE FEE. Pay attention trackday providers, NO GATE FEE. We find a place to park, get all the bikes unloaded. Find our garage space. Oh man what a wet dream they are. Good lighting, air, power, clean and large restrooms.... oh man. Excuse me, I need a moment. Ahhh, okay better. Lookin' for the Michelin man I was.... cool, he was there and as promised ready to go. Introduce myself, they remember the exchanges of email/requests. No time wasted, the R-1 has a spiffy pair of new shoes on her. Bell of the ball as far as I am concerned. Get her over to tech. What a smooth operation that was. In and out in 2 minutes. Cut to 8 AM, riders meeting..... Oh man this thing takes F O R E V E R. Good info but still takes forever. Like your mom telling ya you can't open presents till everyone is up. WTFO??? We get through all that, suited up. A group is called.... Up to the grandstands to see this track in motion. WOW, the speeds they came by the grandstands was just awesome. First call goes out to B group time to suit up. Hands are starting to shake, pulse quicken as the adrenlin starts to pump..... 3rd call goes out to line up. What happened to 2nd call? Oh well. Commands go out, right thumb "red button down to on position, check. Left thumb, depress gray start button, check" She is started and getting warm. Put over to the stagin area. Wantr in front, extreme to my right. We are next. A deep breath and a prayer, "God, may you return me and my bike back to Cali the sameway we got here. And yes, protect those here today and may they do the same". Not much but it is mine. We are off, down the straight and into turn one.... the beginning of 4.5 MILES of the best track you WILL EVER experience at this time. WHOOOTTTTTTTT. Siting laps continue through out the morning. This track is so long and so big that you forget where you are in/on the track at any given moment. The turns are such that you can change you line and still make the turn. WOW, by lap four I go to myself, "lets see what she's got." 167 MPH down the straight I back her off, gears brakes, oh **** a turn...... I take the turn and the R-1 handles like a hot knife through soften margerine, Oh sweet. The morning continues with 30 on, 30 off sessions. Two group format. Sweet. Extreme and I swap places around the track, man this is fun. Due to the length of the track and the speeds a liter bike can carry, wantr was only able to pass me once per session in the AM and I never saw him in the PM session. PEOPLE, you have got to make this track. The day progressed with me getting faster and faster through the turns and down the straights. Working one turn at a time. The day continues like this for us for the next 8.5 hrs. I sit out last session for b group. Tired and had a hard time focusing last outing. All day we went without one major off. Two laps into the last outing, someone off's. Rumored to have a broken collar bone. Heal well unknown rider. Okay, truck is all packed up. Photos taken. RRWANTR has his family loaded up and are headed back that night to Ridgecrest. Extreme and I are staying another night and headin' out in the AM. We are whipped.... Monday night (oh what a night): Will give you the Reader's Digest version (detailed version can be sought on the boards, somewhere). Canandians invite us to drink beer in their hotel room. I have the bright idea to have it at the pool. All is cool. Canandians invite a stranger to join us. WTF, there is plenty of beer and it is theirs to boot. All goes well and is a lot of fun untill closin time. Stranger starts to break things at the pool, security gets called. Super old dude who proceeds to push the Stranger around until he cleans things up. Stranger continues to get mouthy, guard has police call, police enroute, Stranger starts swallowing some substance by the pool. Cops arrive, stranger starts tellin' them how we are the one's pickin' on him. Extreme mentions what the Stranger was doing by the poolside and then the stranger threatens and lunges at Extreme. BOTH cops grab the stranger, ARM BAR him and plant him face down into a un reclined lounge chair. (haven't seen that since I stopped watchin' the WWF). Stranger then gets beligerent, cuffed, hauled off. I will forgoe the broken bottles, threatening our litte buddy extreme, the pizza delivery person who we shall just call PAT in the interest of time. The endless debates of Speed's sexuality. In the end, it was a great time. Its 2:30 in the AM we are going to bed. Sept 5, 2006 Extreme and I are both feeling like hammered ****. Toss our stuff into the truck, slide in to the resturaunt for something to eat. We meet our canadian friends, Phobiaphobe, Jess (the hottie from the night at dinner), Wokstar (a.k.a CHENG (something left out from the above para)), Purpdust (a.k.a FOUR-EYED YANKEE (also left out from the previos para)). The trip home was uneventful for the most part. One flat tire and that was all. Had to tell Roaddog and Wantr the fun they missed. Returned the trailer to raoddog, had some taco bell and returned to the desert a tired but oh so happy man. Cut to today, 0730 at work. A coworker who was out all last week goes to me this morning, 'So Dave, how was Miller?" A HUGE grin comes over me and the other co-workers go, "not again, he hasn't stopped smilin' or talking about that place all week". And the story begins..... That my fellow riders is my story of the experience I had going to, at and coming from MMP. All I can say is do whatever it takes to meet us there next yr. It is worth the trip. WOW.... |
