Default So I think I've had it!....Long Rant FYI

So I think I've just about had it with certain members of the other not to be mentioned forum. I'm a nice person. I've been riding for 17 years though most have been comuter years. I rode all year round for about 5 years got the el nino rains in there...yeah that sucked. I rode canyons pretty hard for about 3 years and then quit for about 12 years can't really remember why just did. I started riding canyons again in March of this year and I was looking for people in the sportbike community to ride and share interest with which led me to the other forum. When I started canyons again I was pushing it alot that combined with not too idealistic road conditions (a big rock in the shade) led to a nice get off about 2 months ago. Since that time I have decided to get back to basics with my riding no hanging off, no trying to scrape pucks, working on throttle control better lines steeper lean angles and just having my knee out if I need it. So I've been doing a lot of group rides riding in the very back. I ride slow, not noob slow, but slower than the people I've been riding with. I have alot of knowledge about many things which I have gained through my own experiences and research that which I don't know about I ask questions or talk about incesively until I find the answers I'm looking for. I looked to certain people I had met for ideas, and possible mentorship due to the fact that they are very fast and good riders and other people I had met look up to them.

The point:
I am at the point right now to tell some of these people to go screw themselves and their pompus self righteous attitudes. I am inherently shy so to make up for it I usually talk alot when I meet new people. This may be my down fall. No matter what I make a valid attempt to be nice to people that I ride with and when I ride in groups it is no different than when I ride by myself I ride "The Pace" at my pace. So I'm not hauling a$$ on the hill why should I have to, to look good to you, to gain your respect no fricking way. Comments made lately on a couple of rides I've been on have made me think quite differently about certain people imho they ride too fast to be safe at times way off the chart all though they may be able to ride that fast safely the people trying to stay on their tail are pushing it way too hard. I pesonally don't conform, but I fear for the ones who do. I don't care what you tell me flying around a blind corner on a hill frequented by autos, bicyclist and hikers @ 80-100mph is not safe for conditions. The same corner would be complete safe @ the track but no way is it in these conditions. People need to practice what they preach, many who have said they ride "The Pace" obviously haven't read it. Since I've slowed down a bit I really enjoy my riding and I have picked up books that were suggested to me, that are starting to make alot of sense in my riding practily not just in my head. If you don't like the speed I ride at :greenflip I'm not leaving a noob behind, I'm not gonna tell you too bad for you if you got lost and I'm definitely not gonna say "oh maybe they bailed out because they couldn't hang" when we are on a long ride that changes many roads and people obviously missed a turn that is straight selfish B.S. Don't preach riding the track to me when you ride like this in the canyons. I haven't even been on a track yet. I've been to Big Willow a couple of times to watch and decided I really don't want to ride that fast at this time (nothing wrong with the people that do) I got over the I gotta go faster faze years ago, now I just want to be better sure speed will come with that in time, but you'll never find me hitting 5th or 6th gear on ACH that is just plain stupidity to me and you won't find me down talking people who ride like I do (at our own comfortable pace)

I consider myself a considerate rider if I know a faster rider is approaching on the hill I usually pull as right as possible slow down if I'm at a turn entrance and point to let them know to pass me. If I approach a slower rider I don't just blast them I get in their mirror to let them know I'm there and make a safe pass when the opportunity arises. The couple of seconds it takes to do either of these makes for a more enjoyable ride because that is all it is a ride, not a race. I'm not :greenflip ing your lap times and your definitely not doing it to mine, I have none.

dont get pissy cause you cant keep up :greenflip j/k
I know what you mean tho. Some people dont posess or convey the proper mindset. I know alot of people that are fast but that doesnt mean they should be towing someone around. Some of them are irresponsible and extremely lucky to still be riding. One should always ride their own ride. Baby steps.
It sucks that you have to deal with crap like that.
I dont know who you have been riding with but if you want we can go kick their asses, that always makes me feel better :thumbup But apparently I am emotionally disturbed with a score of 15 in the serial killer test.

No Mark I'm not talking about you :greenflip The guy that ditched you for breakfast may be one of the culprits! (There are a couple of them) When we rode up you rode your pace and I rode mine that was cool with me and wasn't at all what I was talking about.

It comes down to the practice what you preach thing words are nice but I judge people mainly by actions, secondly by feel, thirdly by words. Oh yeah it would be ok for you to tell me to shut up if I talk to much :shutup

Hey Freakshow999, I met you at the Shell that day you guys went up ACH after riding GMR. I know exactly what you mean with the whole riding thing. That's why I just ride my way when in groups. Unless I'm paired up with someone slower than me, then I'll try to ride closer to their speed so they don't feel like I've just left them.

I'll be on this Saturday's ride. Probably "intermediate" group. I'll be breaking off at AFH though with a few other people.

I hear your frustrations and have had many of the same feelings on certain group rides. One of my first group rides we were told that there would be a back marker with a chatterbox. I explained that I was REALLY slow (sloth-like), and was reassured to not worry about it. This was supposed to be a ride for beginners and it was really fast. I was way behind. As you mentioned, I will not ride faster than what I am comfortable with. If I did not have this attitude, I guarantee I would have gone down on that ride trying to keep up. The back marker ended up passing me (and my husband). Eventually it was just me, way, way back on a road that I had no idea where the hell I was. I was very uncomfortable and Chris (husband) was very pissed off. Had I gone down, it would have taken about 10 minutes (at least) for someone to notice and go and find me. That was the last time we will do one of those. THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A RIDE FOR BEGINNERS!!! :wtf
We also noticed that certain people who say dragging knee on the road is unneccessary, and that people need to ride the speed limits, and the people who are really preachy, were totally hypocritical (sp). It really opened my eyes.
I also have run into many people at bike nights and on forums that say they want to help riders who are not as good as they are. Many of these people have turned out to be full of crap. When it came down to it, certain people have not had the patience or interest in actually adopting a new rider.
The positive side of all this is that I have met some amazing riders who are eager to help other riders regardless of their skill level. I also have met some incredible friends. I now ride with people who I trust, and who I know have my back.
Hang in there and just weed out the bad ones and ride with the good ones.
Deb

Cool I may run the loop with you guys also I should be in the back of the intermediate group.

I'm more upset about the attitude some people convey. It was good to meet you and I hope to ride with you soon.

Deb, thanks for your story that is the kind of stuff I'm talking about. I'm not going anyware and I've been having alot of fun doing my turtle thing. Just like with everything else in life there are good people and people who claim to be but are too selfish to notice. I may just stay away from certain group rides for a while there are people I really enjoy riding with that I have met who like riding with me also their faster but their attitude is the same as mine. To clarify I have never been left behind but I was on a couple of rides that people were and when I inquired about it to our ride leader the comments I originally posted were spoken to me I stood there in amazement with the :wtf look on my face. It sucked because I personally would have gone back to find them, but we were on a long ride and I didn't know where we were going. It made me feel really bad.

Wow........someone was talking down to you cause you rode slower than they were?

Thats not cool. My take is this........when youre fast, you have nothing to prove. I aint the fastest guy in the world, I can hold my own, but I would NEVER talk down to somoene because they are riding a slower pace than I.

Freakshow........sad to hear you hear you had a bad experience. I can understand your frustration. I think its a shame that happened.

I find it best to just ride however you feel you need to ride...for me one of the most enjoyable rides in the so cal area is to go up ACH from the shell station at about 50 mph or so....you never have to let off it just seems like a good speed to not roll on or off the throtle...the so called pace i suppose i just cruz up and it's a blast all the corner seem to be perfect at that speed and i'm in this zone that I like...and for me I just kindda figure to hell with what other ppl think.....but then agian I ride for the moment and not for fast or slow...it's all about my and the rode and that momement so to speak.....it's kindda a spiratual thing i suppose so to speak.....
