I'll do that from now on. I'll be carrying a liitle towel to cover the gauges, but still, I would think if the screen was to blame which i tend to think it is, it would have happened or become noticeable before, especially during the summertime :dunno

I suspect it has to do with the angle of the sun and the angle the bikes parked at and light refaction and all that other technical shiznit that i only kindda half understand...

Yeah, it has to be a very clear day and the sun has to hit it at just the right angle to cause the damage. That's why you don't see a big burnt arc across the whole dash. It's just when the sun shines through a certain part of the windshield that has just the right curvature to focus the light. Evidently that curvature is aligned so that it can only happen on a certain part of the tach. I went for six months or so with my DB screen before it happend to me.

With the RC51 and a stock windscreen it seems to happen within a wider range of factors.

A few years ago I read about it happening with the DB smoked screens too which would lead credibility to the theory that it is actually the sun reflecting off the bottom of the windshield and shining down on the cluster. As in when the bike is parked on an incline and the sun is able to shine from the rear. I'll believe this one when I see it.

I still have the plastic bag in which the DB came and it has a note that reads:

Quote
" Motorcycle dashboards: In certain rare instances the material used by motorcycle manufactures in the construction of dashboards and gauges is made from plastic which have inherently low melting points. Zero Gravity assumes no liability for any melting or deforming of the dashboard or its components due to heat from the sun or any other reason. Please make sure to cover your dashboard if you plan to leave your bike exposed to the sun for any length of time" Unquote

I guess it says it all

Yep, I had that happen in my 954. A spot on the rim of the tach melted. And it was the double bubble windscreen that caused it. The underside of the DB windscreen is parabolic in shape and focuses the sunlight right down onto the instrument cluster. Everything still works in the cluster and there was a pinhole in the front cover. I sealed it with RTV and left it. The damned face place cost $80. So now I put a rag over the instruments when the bike is parked and it is sunny out.

My 954 faceplate melted with the STOCK and double bubble screen. There's quite a few threads about this on fireblades.org
See thats just the 'quality' you come to expect from Team Red.... They can't even get a tach display correct -how can you trust them to get anything more complex correct? Forget Honda -stay Green!!! :thumbup

What you talking about Lloyd? You went blue.... :wtf :lmao AND finally realized the error of your ways and bought a used RED from me... :laughing :lmao :spit Just cuz you couldn't handle the power of the red beast don't go bashing them... :moon :lmao :spit

With the stock screen, the rim of my 954s tach got a couple melted pts on it. After I put the DB on, a couple more happened on the rim, plus the backing under the glass got a couple bubbles in it. Though this is out in the desert where there's 345 days of sun and it was out in it every day..

Default jeez

just get the tinted DB screen, that should attenuate the sunlight so it becomes moot. :dunno

They look cooler anyway :thumbup

I went green with a blue-ish tint... As for the Honda, I tried to give it steering inputs my Green would handle with no problems... Big Red 'fell short' of the requirement!!!
