Default respring- oil?

Ok, I am finally going to get around to respringing my bike to better suit my size. At this time I cannot revalve the bike so the stock valves will have to do. Question: should I go with a thicker fork oil? Any thoughts and recomendations appreciated.

I would stick to the oil that is called for stock.

Once you spring the bike, you will start to feel what it was ment to ride like.

If you do the forks, you should look at doing the shock too... That way the front and rear both work together, and one doesnt over power the other,.

When Stig resprung my 3tj 400(forks are the same as a first gen R6) he went with 20w oil instead of revalving to keep the cost down. They work awsome with the stock valving. I totally agree with John on doing the front and rear at the same time.

my plan is to do both front and rear on the respring. I just dident know if I should go to heavier oil to compensate for the stiffer spring and the fact that I was not revalving.

Just change one thing at a time.

The oil should still be the stock wieght, when you put a stiffer spring in, you are holding the weight of the rider and the bike. The oil only controls how fast the forks can compress or extend. If you are too heavy for the stock springs, you would have to turn the compression valve to the stiff side, and rebound to the soft side for the bike to work better.

Once you go to the correct spring, you should be able to use the clickers closer to the center settings, and make the valves work the way they where intended.

Default thicker oil not

i'v know jim lindeman from lindeman enginiering for about 20 years and have had lots of bikes done by him including my set of showa world superbike forks
when you go to a thicker fork oil (higher #) you slow don the rate that the oil can move thru the valving holes on both the compression & rebound
what you want is for the oil to move faster thru there thats why when they revalve they enlarge the valving holes and the drop the oil to a 5 weight or even a 2.5 weight
