iTrader: (0) Rep Power: 4 (10) | Hi guys:I have a question I've been trying to figure out myself. I bought a '03CBR954RR, non-CA spec model. I'm doing some maintenance and I was trying to change the oil filter, but I just can't get the wrench to fit. I've tried all positions but it won't fit. I have the proper wrench, and it's the one I used on my '02 CBR954RR CA-spec model. I tried it on that one and it fits perfect. I'm attaching a picture so you can have a better idea. Do any of you know if 49 state models differ from the CA mode as far as the headers go in this bike. I can't think of a reason why it's not fitting. Bike does not look it's been crashed. Any ideas, suggestions, I need to get the oil and filter changed.

iTrader: (0) Rep Power: 4 (16) | Aftermarket filter, aftermarket headers, but really why would you care? Even if it fits most of the time it'd slip. I always try the wrench first, but 90% of the time follow with big plumbers' channel lock pliers or whatever it's called. In the most extreme cases it's tried and true screwdriver and hammer method. Unless you intend to reuse the filter of course. ![]() |

iTrader: (1) Rep Power: 5 (47) | I cannot tell why the filter doesn't fit, but I can say that I think you should just get your hands in there and put a little M.A.N into it and it should come right off of there... J/k, I would recommend try using a strap wrench or a an oil filter wrench (the ones that look like channel lock pliers).

iTrader: (0) Rep Power: 4 (10) | It's fixed already. We managed to build a wider (wide enough) gap between the headers and the filter so now the wrench fits perfectly. Now I'm a happy man.

iTrader: (0) Rep Power: 4 (10) | My friend, the motorcycle mechanic, came from Chile, so after debating a little he decided that the best way was to get the engine running so the headers would get hot, and once up to temperature he would slide a piece of wood and just push the pipe out a little to create the gap so the wrench would fit. We just needed a little gap, and it worked perfectly, no damage, nothing. We fit the 954 with new tires (BT016), and new Akrapovic slip-on, new oil and filter, air filter, steel braided front brake lines, new brake fluid, and coolant, CRG levers, Galfer wave rotors front and rear. This bike was just sitting in a garage for quite a while. I feel really lucky to find this gem with such little use. I love the 954, and now I'm thinking of fixing the other one. I can take it one step at a time now that I got this other one running.

iTrader: (5) Rep Power: 15 (42) | Sounds like a great bike! You need to get a pick with the Fizzy in the middle of the 954 bookends..... |

iTrader: (0) Rep Power: 0 (10) | get that facker off... then replace it with a K&N, they come complete with a nut on the top of the filter so you don't have to deal with that monkey business anymore.. in fact you can torque it to spec easily!
